Collin-Mezin Workshop

The Collin-Mezin Workshop traces its origins to Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin (1841–1923), one of the most influential violin makers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Trained under his father, C.L. Collin, and possibly spending time in the Brussels workshop of Nicolas-François Vuillaume, Collin-Mezin established his own workshop in Paris in 1886. His instruments—violins, violas, and cellos—were celebrated for their vibrant tone, flexibility of sound, and refined craftsmanship.

He received numerous honors, including gold and silver medals at the Paris Exhibitions of 1878, 1889, and 1900, and was named Officier de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts.

After his death in 1923, the workshop was passed to his son, Charles Collin-Mezin Jr., who relocated it to Mirecourt in 1925. Following Charles Jr.'s death in 1934, the workshop continued under the direction of Charles J.B. Collin-Mezin III, maintaining the family's legacy of fine French violin making.

Instruments from the Collin-Mezin Workshop are highly regarded for their clarity, projection, and expressive tonal palette, making them sought after by performers and collectors alike.
